What does local browser processing mean?

Traditional online tools send your file to a server, perform the work there, and return a result. A local tool instead uses browser technologies such as WebAssembly and built-in file APIs to do the work on your computer.

This is useful for contracts, invoices, client assets, and personal media because fewer copies of the original file are created.

How can you tell whether a tool uploads files?

  • Read the privacy explanation beside the upload control.
  • Check whether the tool works after its page has loaded and your connection is disabled.
  • Look at the browser network panel if the document is especially sensitive.

“Browser-based” does not automatically mean “local.” Some browser interfaces still send files to a backend, so the tool should state its behavior clearly.

When is a server still necessary?

AI APIs, website scanners, account synchronization, and jobs too large for a device may require network requests. The important distinction is whether the network use is necessary, disclosed, and connected to the action you requested.
