Why compress video locally?
Large recordings are awkward to email, upload, and archive. Local compression avoids an additional upload before the real upload, while keeping the original file on your device.
Choose settings for the destination
For messaging or quick previews, a smaller file matters more than perfect detail. For a portfolio or client delivery, use a gentler reduction. Resolution, bitrate, duration, and motion all affect the final size.
- Select the source video.
- Choose a balanced preset first.
- Run the compression and preview the result.
- Download it only when the quality is acceptable.
Why can browser compression take time?
GoVid uses FFmpeg WebAssembly, so your processor does the work that would otherwise happen on a remote server. Longer and higher-resolution files require more time and memory.
What formats can GoVid handle?
GoVid supports common inputs including MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, and WebM. Device capacity and browser memory still place practical limits on very large files.
